Abstract
The talk will use case studies to illustrate the evolving roles and essential knowledge of clinical engineers in North America. The requirements and process leading to clinical engineering certification will also be described.
Biodata
Professor Anthony Chan graduated in Electrical Engineering (B.Sc. with honors) from the University of Hong Kong in 1979 and completed his M.Sc. in Engineering from the same University. He has a Master's Degree (M.Eng.) in Clinical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, B.C., Canada. He also holds a Certificate in Health Services Management from the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Prof Chan has been a faculty member of the British Columbia Institute of Technology since 1992 and is currently the Program Head of the Biomedical Engineering Technology Program in the School of Health Sciences. He is also a teaching faculty and Adjunct Professor of the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program of the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining BCIT, Anthony was the Director of Biomedical Engineering at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C, Canada and the Consultant and Manager of the Biomedical Engineering Departments at the Burnaby and Lion's Gate Hospitals in Vancouver. Anthony is a Professional Engineer (Canada), Chartered Engineer (UK), Certified Clinical Engineer (Canada), fellow of CMBES, senior member of the IEEE, and member of the IET, and HKIE.
